We’ve all sent a message we instantly regret, maybe a typo, an accidental reply-all, or something we shouldn’t have said. Google Messages is rolling out a feature that lets you delete texts for everyone. With RCS enabled, you can now remove a sent message from everyone’s device, not just your own.

You can now delete texts for everyone in Google Messages, as long as they’re using RCS

This feature works in both one-on-one and group chats. Google first hinted at it earlier this year, and beta testers saw it in May. Now it is rolling out more widely, giving anyone who texts too fast a useful option. For example, you might send a reply to the wrong person, share a link by mistake, or write something that comes out harsher than intended.

To delete a message, select it, tap the trash icon, and choose “Delete for everyone.” The text will disappear from all screens if everyone in the chat is on RCS. It won’t stop someone from reading it before you delete it or from taking a screenshot, but it does give you a second chance.

Google Messages is finally letting users take back texts. Like Telegram, WhatsApp, and Instagram, messages are no longer permanent by default. The catch is that it only works if everyone in the chat is on RCS. Messages sent to non-RCS users won’t disappear.

It won’t fix every texting mistake, and it won’t stop someone from seeing a message before it’s deleted. But for quick reactions, wrong chats, or messages you regret, it finally gives you a real way to take control.
