Yesterday, we got our first look at the upcoming Google Drive app, sporting a fresh coat of Material 3 Expressive. And as we inch closer to the upcoming I/O, the folks over at Android Authority are giving us an early preview of the redesigned Google Calendar, also styled with Material 3 Expressive in mind.

AssembleDebug (via Android Authority) spotted the redesign running on Google Calendar v2025.19.0-757507108-release. According to him, and as shown in the screenshots, Google Calendar begins adopting Material 3 Expressive starting with this version. The redesign likely won’t roll out until the public release of Android 16. But here’s a quick preview of what it will look like once it’s live.
The UI changes are easy to spot and align with the Material 3 Expressive design language. Calendar corners are now more rounded, and the font has been updated to Google Sans Flex. It’s not a major overhaul, and to be honest, I believe in the idea of not fixing what ain’t broken. Another subtle change is in how the days of the week are displayed. Instead of single-letter abbreviations, the app now shows more of each day’s name for better clarity.
One of the more noticeable updates is the redesigned Floating Action Button (FAB). Previously, tapping it brought up options to add an Event or a Task. In the updated version, a Birthday option has been added, along with an X icon to quickly close the menu.
That’s about it for the upcoming changes. Google has already refreshed a number of its apps with Material 3 Expressive, but it still has a large library to work through. Updating all of them will take time. We should hear more about these updates during the Google I/O event early next week.
