Google aims to help its users find a song they discovered a few weeks ago on its app. The company is working on a new song search history tool that allows users to see a list of all the songs they have previously listened to, along with the artist name, thumbnail image, etc. This tool is hidden in the latest beta version of the Google app for Android.

Song Search History is coming to Google users, newly discovered evidence confirms

Search history isn’t just for websites — it applies to music searches as well. According to a report from Android Authority, an APK teardown of the Google app’s latest beta version 16.13.38 reveals a song history view within the song search tool. This allows users to access a record of past songs identified by Google’s tool. It is worth noting that users can already access these songs through their account’s search history on the web and with Now Playing on Pixel phones. However, the Google app itself doesn’t offer a song history view.

Once the user taps on the new history icon that shows up in the song search screen of the app, it takes them to a list of recently identified songs. It allows users to see the song title, artist name, thumbnail image, and the time they searched for it. If the user taps on any of these entries, the system will trigger a Google Search for the song.

This helpful tool brings the Google app’s song search closer to the Pixel phone’s “Now Playing” tool, which already has song history. It does not change how well Google recognizes songs, but it makes the tool more convenient. It’s good to see how YouTube history helps users find old videos — now Google is doing the same for songs.

This new song search history tool isn’t widely available for beta testers, but Google is working on it. Keep an eye out for the latest Google app updates on your Android device.
