Google’s AI-Powered Search Live Now Available in the US

Google has officially launched Search Live in the US that lets users search with both voice and camera. The feature is available in the Google app on iOS and Android. Previously, it was part of Google’s experimental Search Labs, but now anyone in the US can access it without opting in.
Google launches Search Live for real-time voice and camera search
Search Live is part of Google’s AI Mode and uses Gemini to provide answers. Users can ask questions with their voice or show objects using their camera. A blog piece on Google’s The Keyword highlights five examples how you can make the most from the feature. Below are two such examples.
Explore while you travel: Imagine you’re on vacation and getting ready at the hotel before a day of exploration. You can go Live with Search to have a hands-free conversation about the neighborhoods you want to visit, all while you finish applying your sunscreen. And once you’re out and about, you can fire up Live and activate your camera to ask about anything you see.
Try a new hobby: When you need help picking up a new skill — like crafting the perfect cup of matcha — consider Search Live your very own expert advisor. Point your camera at the equipment in your matcha set and ask what each tool is used for. Or get quick advice on which ingredients you can substitute if you’re looking for low-sugar or dairy-free alternatives for a matcha latte.

The feature works similarly to Google Lens but adds a live, interactive element. While Gemini Live focuses on conversation, Search Live combines real-time AI responses with traditional search results. Web links appear alongside answers, so users can click through for more information.
To use Search Live, tap the Live button under the search bar in the Google app or open it through Google Lens. You can see a full-screen interface with visual feedback when you speak or when Google responds. Controls at the bottom let you mute the microphone or turn the camera on and off. A transcript feature also lets you view the conversation in text form.
Google says Search Live works even if multiple objects are in the camera frame or upside down. For now, the feature is only available in English, but more languages are expected in the future.
