For the past couple of months, Google has been integrating several AI-powered features into Gmail. Now, the search giant has announced a smarter search AI feature called ‘Most relevant’ for its email client. As the name suggests, this tool shows you the most relevant results faster. So, if you have been struggling to find information in your overflowing inbox, Gmail’s smarter AI search feature makes your life easier.
Gmail’s ‘most relevant’ search helps you find emails faster
In a blog post, Google announced that ‘Most relevant’ search results are rolling out globally for users with personal Google accounts. This AI-powered feature is available on both the web and the Gmail app for Android and iOS, allowing users to switch between ‘Most relevant’ and ‘Most recent’ results. Additionally, the company has confirmed plans to extend this feature to business users in the future.
“Instead of just showing emails in chronological order based on keywords, Gmail search results now factor in elements like recency, most-clicked emails and frequent contacts. With this update, the emails you’re looking for are far more likely to be at the top of your search results — saving you valuable time and helping you find important information more easily,” Googe said in its blog post.
The image below shows a comparison of the search view before and after. You can see instead of displaying results chronologically, the “Most relevant” search sorts them by relevance, making it easier and faster to find what you are looking for.
At I/O 2024, Google introduced a bunch of Gemini AI-powered features for Gmail, many of which are now available. The ‘Summarize Email’ feature provides a quick summary of email threads. Just tap the Summarize button in Gmail to see the highlights. With ‘Contextual Smart Reply,’ Gmail suggests more relevant responses based on the conversation. You can edit the reply or send it as-is. ‘Gmail Q&A’ lets users ask Gemini to summarize emails or search past information easily.
