Gemini has come a long way since its launch. It’s way better now, with Google continuously adding new features to its AI chatbots. Last year, Google added the ability to upload files in Gemini, but it was only available for paid users (Gemini Advanced). This awesome feature is now rolling out to everyone, including Samsung Galaxy users. You can now try out Gemini’s file upload feature for free.

Gemini now lets you upload and analyze a file of your choice. To do so, just open the Gemini app and tap the plus (+) icon in the bottom left corner. From there, you can either upload files directly from your device or Google Drive. Once the file is uploaded, feel free to ask anything. It’s live for me, and I’m guessing most users should have access by now. You can see how it looks in the images below.
That said, there are still some perks exclusive to the Gemini Advanced plan. Unlike the free tier, Gemini Advanced uses Gemini 2.0 Pro, which is better at analyzing documents. But don’t worry, Flash 2.0 used by the free tier still does a solid job, though there might be some accuracy limitations. Expect improvements in the future.
You can upload up to 10 files at once, with each file being up to 100MB. It also supports a variety of file types, including text files, documents, spreadsheets, and more. Here’s the full list of supported file types, according to Google.
- Plain text files: TXT
- Code files including C, CPP, PY, JAVA, PHP, SQL, and HTML
- Document files: DOC, DOCX, PDF, RTF, DOT, DOTX, HWP, HWPX
- Documents created in Google Docs
- Tabular data files: CSV, TSV
- Spreadsheet files: XLS, XLSX
- Spreadsheets created in Google Sheets
