Samsung recently launched the Galaxy S26 series with higher prices in many markets. However, the company’s next foldable could take a different approach. Early reports suggest Samsung may keep the Galaxy Z Fold 8’s starting price unchanged from its predecessor, potentially thanks to Apple. With Apple expected to debut its first foldable iPhone later this year, Samsung could freeze Fold 8 pricing to stay competitive in the premium foldable segment.

Apple’s foldable iPhone may influence Galaxy Z Fold 8 pricing

Samsung has recently been raising prices across its smartphone lineup due to rising component costs. The company has been unable to absorb the increasing costs for semiconductor components such as memory chips. While the situation may not be different when it launches the Galaxy Z Fold 8 later this year, Samsung is reportedly willing to lower its margins to stay competitive against Apple’s first foldable iPhone.

According to industry reports, Apple aims to sell around 15 million units of its upcoming foldable iPhone. More importantly, its target launch price currently sits around the $2,000 mark, the same as Samsung’s Fold lineup. If that happens, Samsung would likely face direct pricing competition in the premium foldable category for the first time. To avoid losing ground, the Korean firm may choose to keep the Galaxy Z Fold 8 price in the same range as its predecessor.

Samsung is reportedly exploring ways to reduce production costs for the upcoming Fold. One strategy involves expanding its supplier network and incorporating more components from Chinese suppliers instead of relying primarily on South Korean partners. This approach could help the company offset higher chip prices and maintain competitive pricing without severely cutting profit margins. It remains to be seen how the Samsung-dominated foldable market shakes up once Apple enters the scene.
