Galaxy Z Fold 7 May Look Like a Regular Phone — No More Foldable Bulk

Samsung is reinventing its Fold series this year, with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 getting some much-needed design changes. It is slimmer, taller, and wider than its predecessor, radically transforming its front profile. The changes bring it closer to the clean, sleek look of a traditional bar-style phone without the bulkiness of a foldable.

Since releasing the first Galaxy Fold in 2019, Samsung has steadily refined its foldable hardware. The introduction of the waterdrop hinge a couple of years ago allowed the device to fold flat, leaving no gap. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is now taking foldable innovation a step further. The upcoming handset gets an incredibly slim build of just 3.9mm when unfolded (excluding display bumpers).

Even when folded, the Fold 7 is rumored to be just 9mm thick, over 3mm slimmer than the Fold 6(12.1mm). Coupled with a taller and wider design, the new model allows for a regular smartphone experience on the cover screen. You get a 6.5-inch flagship display with a similar aspect ratio to the Galaxy S25 Ultra, meaning a near-Ultra experience before you unfold the device.

“From the front, it almost looks like a normal phone,” X tipster @PandaFlashPro recently said about the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The device also gets a camera upgrade, offering a 200MP primary shooter. This is a huge boost for Samsung foldables, which have been lacking hardware innovation, though the company excels on the software side of things. The Korean firm believes the new Fold will deliver an unmatched foldable experience.

All eyes are now on Samsung’s next Unpacked event, likely happening in July in New York. Alongside the Fold 7, the company should unveil the Galaxy Z Flip 7, Flip FE, and Galaxy Watch 8 series. A new entry to Samsung’s foldable lineup, the FE model aims to make folding phones more accessible with a lower price tag. Stay tuned for the official launch.
