Galaxy Z Fold 7 is Incredibly Slim, But Still Trails Honor and Oppo

Samsung will soon launch the Galaxy Z Fold 7, its thinnest book-style foldable yet. With a rumored folded thickness of 9mm, the device is over 3mm slimmer than the Fold 6 (12.1mm). However, it may still fall behind in the race for the thinnest foldable. In fact, it may not even rank second.

In February this year, Oppo launched the Find N5, a book-style foldable measuring just 8.9mm thick when folded. If the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s rumored thickness of 9mm holds true, Samsung’s upcoming foldable will already be slightly thicker than the Find N5. But the competition is about to get even slimmer — Honor has teased its upcoming Magic V5 will measure just 8.5mm, making it the thinnest foldable in this category yet.

This places the Galaxy Z Fold 7 as the third-thinnest book-style foldable on the market. That said, don’t let rankings overshadow the progress — Samsung’s 9mm profile is still impressively slim, especially given what the device offers. For perspective, it’s only 0.8mm thicker than the Galaxy S25 Ultra, a conventional slab smartphone.

More importantly, Samsung appears to be prioritizing practicality and durability over shaving off fractions of a millimeter. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to be the only foldable among its rivals to offer dust resistance — a feature with real-world value.
