Samsung recently confirmed that it absorbed increased production costs as much as it could for its latest foldables. This allowed the Korean firm to keep prices nearly flat compared to last year — the Galaxy Z Fold 7 saw a $100 increase, while the Galaxy Z Flip 7 retains the same price. Now, industry watchers say the integration of the in-house Exynos 2500 chip into the Flip 7 made it possible.

The Exynos chip helps Samsung keep the Z Flip 7 price the same

The seventh-generation clamshell foldable phone arrives with substantial upgrades over the previous generation. For instance, it features a larger 4.1-inch cover display, up from the 3.4-inch screen on the Z Flip 6. A bigger 4,300mAh battery — an increase from the predecessor’s 4,000mAh — powers the device.

Despite meaningful upgrades across the board, the Korean firm launched the Galaxy Z Flip 7 at the same price structure. The 256GB storage model comes at $1,099, while the 512GB storage variant costs $1,219. The reason behind Samsung’s ability to maintain stable pricing lies in its strategic use of the Exynos 2500 chip.

“Since they used their own AP, price negotiations would have been much easier compared to competitors like Qualcomm,” an industry insider said (via DealSite). “In the recent situation where pricing policies such as US tariffs are sensitive, it seems that fully embedding Exynos 2500 indirectly affected the price freeze.”

This year, Samsung ditched the Snapdragon chip used in previous generations in favor of its in-house Exynos chip for the new Flip model. This strategy helped the company not only reduce its dependence on third-party suppliers but also lower production costs. Based on the 3nm process, the Exynos 2500 promises to deliver flagship-level performance and power efficiency.

However, the industry sees this as a bold move, as Samsung may face a certain amount of loss — the company produced the chip using its in-house 3nm process, which currently has a yield of only 30%. Still, from the perspective of the MX (Mobile eXperience) division, it remains a cost-effective solution. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is currently available for pre-order with double storage benefits.
