There’s a lot to love about Samsung’s new foldables, launched less than a month ago. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 addresses one of the biggest drawbacks of foldable phones: durability. According to Samsung, the Z Fold 7 can withstand up to 500,000 folds under specific conditions. When asked about the durability of the Galaxy Z Flip 7, the company stated that it’s just as good.

Here’s how the Galaxy Z Flip 7 held up under extreme durability tests

Galaxy Z Flip 7 has passed one of the internet’s toughest durability tests. JerryRigEverything ran it through his standard set of challenges: scratch tests, flame exposure, dirt infiltration, and multiple bend attempts. Despite a few weak points, the Flip 7 stayed functional from start to finish. The cover screen, made with Gorilla Glass Victus 2, started scratching at level 6 on the Mohs hardness scale. That’s in line with other modern flagship phones. The camera lenses also held up well and showed no early signs of wear.

The inner screen is still a weak spot though. It’s made of a soft polymer and picked up permanent marks at level 2. Even a fingernail can scratch it. Samsung includes one free screen protector replacement in the first year. After that, extras come at a small cost. In the flame test, the outer screen lasted around 20 seconds under direct heat without serious damage. The inner screen lasted a bit less before shutting off and developing burn spots, likely from heat building at the edge.

Dust and dirt were poured on the hinge and display. The hinge made some creaking sounds but kept working. The phone was then bent backward with real force. It flexed, and a small kink formed near the antenna, but it didn’t break. A second bend made more noise, but the phone held together.

All in all, the Galaxy Z Flip series has come a long way. The Flip 7 proves you can consider a foldable without too much hesitation. Right now, it’s $50 off the usual MSRP, bringing the price down to $1,049.99.
