Galaxy XR Unboxing: Delayed Gratification If You Wear Eyeglasses

Samsung has just debuted its Galaxy XR headset. We managed to get our hands on one at our Phoenix office, and naturally, we were eager to see what it brings to the table. Coming in at roughly half the price of Apple’s Vision Pro — its chief rival — the Galaxy XR already sets the stage for some healthy competition. It runs on Google’s new Android XR operating system. Now, let’s unbox Galaxy XR.
Premium pack, plenty inside
The presentation is surprisingly thoughtful, and the box looks super good in the very first glance. Once you unbox it, you’ll see Galaxy XR includes two fit adjusters labeled “thick” and “slim,” a lens cleaning cloth (the kind Apple might sell separately), and a battery pack that connects via USB-C.
The battery’s slide-to-lock mechanism clicks firmly into place. Unlike most phone boxes these days, which often feel half-empty, this one feels purposeful. There’s even a charger included, something that has become a rarity in 2025.
The headset has a clean, futuristic design with Samsung branding on the front and several visible sensors around the frame. It feels lighter than expected and sits evenly once strapped on. The fit is snug and easy to adjust, although users who wear prescription glasses may need optical inserts.
Those with eye issues shouldn’t skip optical inserts
More specifically, those who wear glasses every day (I do), optical inserts are a must. I tried the headset on with my regular glasses, but it didn’t quite work out. Samsung doesn’t recommend doing so, and to be fair, my frames have sharp corners that make the fit even trickier. So, I’ll have to wait for the prescription lenses to arrive before giving it a proper test.
Samsung also sells a travel case for the Galaxy XR, priced at $250. It’s padded, neatly designed, and built to hold the headset, battery pack, and cables securely in place. The price is on the high side, but the case feels like it’s made to last. Other than that, the box packs a total of 11 items, which include the following:
- Galaxy XR headset
- Battery pack
- Power cable
- 25W wall charger
- USB Type-C to Type-C cable
- Lens cleaning cloth
- Light shields (left and right)
- Forehead cushion
- Cushion size adjusters
- Protective cover
- Quick start guide
Those in the US can purchase the Galaxy XR right away. Unfortunately, that’s not yet the case in many other markets, as Samsung appears to be testing the waters in the US and its home turf first. At the moment, Samsung is offering launch freebies valued at $1,140 for early buyers. And when you purchase through our link, we’re adding a $75 gift card with every order. You can find full details about the promotion in a separate article.
