Earlier this month, Samsung rolled out the May 2025 security patch to its latest watches — the Galaxy Watch Ultra and Galaxy Watch 7. Now, that same update is beginning to reach the Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Watch 6 Classic, enhancing security and stability for last year’s models. The Galaxy Watch 5 and older models could receive this update in the coming days.

May 2025 security update now available for Galaxy Watch 6 series

Unlike its flagship smartphones, Samsung doesn’t release monthly security updates for its smartwatches. Instead, these wearables follow a quarterly update cycle, often skipping one or more security patches in between. The last update for the Galaxy Watch 6 series brought the March 2025 security patch, and now, Samsung is rolling out the May release.

The latest update arrives with firmware version ending in BYE9. The rollout began recently, so it could take a few days or weeks for Samsung to cover all eligible Galaxy Watch 6 and Watch 6 Classic units worldwide. You can check for updates manually through the Galaxy Wearable app on your connected smartphone. Go to Watch settings > Watch software update > Download and install.

While this patch is from last month, it still brings essential improvements to keep the device secure. Don’t expect any new features, though. Samsung is currently preparing its next major OS update for Galaxy watches: One UI 8 Watch based on Wear OS 6. This update promises a host of new features and improvements, and the Galaxy Watch 6 series is eligible to receive it.

The Korean firm has already started testing the upcoming update on the Galaxy Watch Ultra and Watch 7. Once testing is complete, the Galaxy Watch 6 and Watch 6 Classic should be next in line. Samsung will officially introduce this update at Galaxy Unpacked next month, with a wide stable rollout expected in August. Stay tuned for more information.
