Samsung is struggling to set prices for its upcoming Galaxy S26 series due to rising memory and component costs. But next year, the company may suffer an even bigger challenge with the Galaxy S27 Ultra. The 2027 Galaxy S flagship could feature Qualcomm’s most expensive Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chip, likely resulting in a debut at a steeper price than ever.

Samsung may face a price challenge with next year’s Galaxy S27 Ultra

According to tipster Digital Chat Station, Qualcomm is gearing up to release two next-generation flagship chips: SM8950 and SM8975. The former may be the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, while the latter is likely the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro. The American firm may power both the chips using TSMC’s 2nm (N2P) node. Moreover, the Pro version could support LPDDR6, a full-fledged GPU, and full cache.

The tipster also said that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro will be extremely expensive, likely due to its use of a cutting-edge manufacturing process and advanced features. In fact, a report last year already hinted at this possibility, and it now seems that things are indeed moving in that direction.

There’s chatter that Samsung could use the “For Galaxy” version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro for the Galaxy S27 Ultra. Qualcomm might use Samsung’s 2nm process for this custom version instead of TSMC’s offering. Of course, this would be a big win for the Korean foundry, but its mobile division may struggle to absorb the higher cost of the chip.

As such, the bill of materials (BoM) for the Galaxy S27 Ultra could increase greatly. With memory prices expected to continue increasing next year, Samsung may have little option but to pass some of the additional costs to buyers. All things considered, the Galaxy S27 Ultra could be the most expensive Galaxy S series phone ever, coming in early 2027.
