Galaxy S26 Ultra Should Adopt this Pixel 10 Display Feature

Pixel 10 launched about two weeks ago, and honestly, there isn’t much to praise on the hardware front. That said, there are a few quality-of-life improvements that make it nice to have and help it stand out in the Android market. It’s pretty clear that most of the progress is on the software side.
Samsung Galaxy phones should borrow “Extra Dim” feature into brightness slider
One such improvement, currently exclusive to the Pixel 10 but likely to trickle down to the Pixel 9 in future updates, is something Samsung should definitely borrow for its Galaxy line. The feature is called Extra Dim, now baked right into the main brightness slider on Pixel 10 phones (h/t Android Authority).

To set the record straight, as Mishaal Rahman points out, Extra Dim isn’t new. It’s been part of Android since version 12 back in 2021 as an accessibility option. It makes the display easier on the eyes in dark environments. But unlike the standard brightness control, it doesn’t just dim the backlight. Instead, it lowers the intensity of colors by tweaking pixel output.
What’s different on the Pixel 10 is that Google has finally integrated it properly. During setup, users now get a clear message explaining that Extra Dim lives inside the brightness slider, and the old standalone toggle shortcuts are gone.
Before, being an accessibility feature, you had to manually enable and disable it. Hardly the most convenient workflow. On the Pixel 10, that friction disappears. Dragging the brightness slider all the way down now automatically turns on Extra Dim, while sliding it back up instantly turns it off. Since adjusting brightness is something we all do constantly, this change makes the feature far more natural to use.
It’s the kind of small but thoughtful tweak that makes a phone feel smarter without shouting about it. And honestly, it’s something Samsung should pay attention to. Rolling this into One UI 8.5 with S26 series would make Galaxy phones more user-friendly in low light. Will Samsung pick it up? A man can only hope.
