Galaxy S26 Ultra Could Feature Built-in Qi2 Magnets Thanks to New S Pen

Samsung introduced Qi2 wireless charging support on the Galaxy S25 Ultra, but the phone lacks built-in magnets. This means you require a compatible magnetic case for perfect alignment and more efficient charging. It appears the company has figured out a way to address this limitation without making the device bulkier or heavier. The Galaxy S26 Ultra could feature a new S Pen technology that frees us space for magnets.

Samsung to enhance Qi2 charging on the Galaxy S26 Ultra with a new S Pen mechanism

After dropping Bluetooth support for the S Pen this year — which hasn’t gone down well with many fans — Samsung is exploring another major change for its iconic stylus. It plans to remove the digitizer, replacing it with a new mechanism for detecting movements and input. This digitizer-free S Pen tech could debut on the Galaxy Z Fold 7 later this year. It has reportedly already passed internal testing and is primed for production.

This technology will eventually expand to mainstream devices, with Samsung aiming to introduce it to Ultra flagships as wealy as 2026. While the company originally developed it to make foldables slimmer and lighter, the Galaxy S26 Ultra could have an added benefit. With no digitizer, it could feature built-in magnets for enhanced Qi2 wireless charging, all the while without adding to its weight and thickness.

Interestingly, this year’s Galaxy S25 Ultra is slimmer and lighter than the S24 Ultra, and the removal of Bluetooth from the S Pen might have played a role in it. The S Pen no longer supports Air Actions and doesn’t require a battery inside it. People are understandably furious about it, as Air Actions offered many convenient features, including a remote camera shutter. Time will tell whether Samsung will bring back these features with the Galaxy S26 Ultra next year.
