Samsung Splits Galaxy S26 Series Between Snapdragon and Exynos

Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy S26 series, its latest flagship smartphones with the most advanced mobile chip. However, not all Galaxy S26 and S26+ models offer the same hardware experience worldwide. The company has once again embraced a regional chip strategy, splitting its flagships between Snapdragon and Exynos.

Galaxy S26 series brings back dual-chip strategy

Debuted at Galaxy Unpacked 2026, the Galaxy S26 series lineup includes the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+, and Galaxy S26 Ultra. The lineup improves AI performance, power efficiency, and thermal management. However, the biggest talking point is Samsung’s decision to use different chipsets depending on the market.

The standard Galaxy S26 and S26+ models use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 “for Galaxy” chip in select countries, including the United States, Canada, China, and Japan. Customers in the rest of the world, such as India, Europe, and South Korea, get Samsung’s own Exynos 2600 chip.

As for the Galaxy S26 Ultra, Samsung is offering Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 “for Galaxy” chip globally. This means you will get the same performance experience regardless of your region.

The Qualcomm chip uses TSMC’s cutting-edge 3nm manufacturing process, while Exynos 2600 uses Samsung’s in-house 2nm node. Of course, both are capable processors for running demanding tasks, including gaming and advanced AI. However, there may be some performance gaps in certain areas.

Last year, Samsung failed to pursue this dual-chip strategy with the Galaxy S25 series due to poor Exynos 2500 yield at the time. Thankfully, the company didn’t face similar challenges with the Exynos 2600, allowing it to power select Galaxy S26 series units. On top of that, the new chip features Heat Pass Block (HPB) technology for superior heat dissipation, addressing overheating concerns.
