The Galaxy S25 Edge “slim flagship” may not be a one-off experiment from Samsung. According to industry sources, the company plans to continue the Edge model with next year’s Galaxy S26 lineup. However, unlike this year, the Galaxy S26 Edge could replace the underperforming Plus model.
Samsung may replace its Plus flagship with the Edge
In recent years, the Galaxy S Plus model has struggled to attract buyers, consistently falling behind the regular and Ultra versions. Out of Samsung’s projected 37.7 million Galaxy S25 sales this year, only 6.7 million are expected to be the Plus model, compared to 13.6 million for the base model and 17.4 million for the Ultra. This underperformance has prompted Samsung to reevaluate its three-model strategy.
In the Galaxy S26 series, internally referred to as Project NPA (S25 has the codename PA or Paradigm), Samsung is developing a three-tier lineup: Normal, Edge, and Ultra. This could mark the end of the Plus model and the beginning of a new focus on slimmer, design-oriented flagships.
However, a lot depends on how well the newly launched Galaxy S25 Edge performs in the market. If it attracts enough buyers, Samsung may solidify the Edge model as a permanent replacement for the Plus. But if sales disappoint, the company may revert to the traditional lineup of Normal, Plus, and Ultra models. As of now, the firm hasn’t scrapped the Plus, as it is currently developing OLED panels for four different S26 models.
Interestingly, rumors of Samsung potentially discontinuing the Plus flagship aren’t new. It was once rumored to cancel the Galaxy S25+, but it obviously didn’t. Maybe the company is still figuring out the best way to streamline its flagship offerings without risking losing sales. The Galaxy S25 Edge could be a test case to see if there’s enough demand for slim flagships.
