Samsung’s latest Galaxy S25 series finally brings support for Qi2 charging, but there’s a catch. These phones are Qi2-ready, meaning they support wireless charging but lack magnetic rings on the back. In short, you need a Qi2-compatible accessory to fully enjoy the feature. It’s been almost a month since the phones were released, yet not many case makers have launched Qi2 cases for the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra. Of course, there are some exceptions.
Here’s why you (probably) can’t find your favorite case makers releasing Qi2-compliant Galaxy S25 cases
To understand why so few case makers are releasing Qi2 Galaxy S25 series cases, we reached out to Peak Design. Wheeler Gans of Peak Design might have an explanation for what’s going on.
“Samsung decided not to put Qi2-compliant magnets in their phones, and are instead are embedding those magnets in their cases. Unfortunately for us, they didn’t release any documentation for 3rd party brands,” Gans shared via email. “Without specs and testing guidelines, we couldn’t ensure our cases would offer ultra-fast Qi2 charging performance.”
You might be wondering why these documents are so important. Before you get your hands on a case from a maker, there’s a whole process involved in manufacturing. After all, making a case is no walk in the park. From what we’re seeing, it seems Samsung didn’t provide the necessary documentation. This documentation would’ve helped case makers understand how the magnets should align. Because even a small misalignment could create a ripple effect, causing charging issues.
Meanwhile, we’ve reached out to Samsung for further comment on what’s causing the delay. If and when Samsung responds, we’ll update this story.
