Galaxy S25 Series Uses Micron’s In-House RAM and Storage Chips

Samsung’s latest Galaxy S25 series was launched a month ago, yet some details remained under wraps until now. A rumor began circulating last month that Samsung might not use its in-house RAM and instead approach Micron as the primary RAM supplier for the Galaxy S25 series. It’s now confirmed that the Galaxy S25 series indeed features Micron-developed RAM as well as storage chips.

Micron and Samsung confirm Galaxy S25 series doesn’t pack in-house RAM and storage chips

Micron confirmed that the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra use its Micron-developed LPDDR5X DRAM and UFS 4.0 storage chips. Not just Micron, Samsung’s official mobile account also confirmed this by responding to the original post. And just so you know, Micron has long been Samsung’s secondary RAM supplier.

Micron announced that its LPDDR5X DRAM chips (used in the Galaxy S25 series) are built with cutting-edge 1β (1-beta) technology. This helps the flagship line run on lower power. What that means for the Galaxy S25 series is better battery life. This is a first for Samsung, by the way. It’s the first time Samsung has used memory chips from someone else in their top-tier phones. Until now, all the Galaxy S and Z models have stuck with Samsung’s own chips. In the press release, Micron also added that “advanced UFS 4.0 storage are embedded into select Galaxy S25 Ultra, Galaxy S25+ and Galaxy S25.”

“We’ve optimized Micron’s mobile portfolio to deliver the power efficiency, high performance and large capacity needed to propel the next wave of AI innovation in flagship smartphones,” Micron’s mobile business unit’s Mark Montierth was quoted in the press release.

This also means that Samsung’s chip division isn’t in good shape, which we may have guessed. But on the brighter side, it’s good to see that Samsung isn’t compromising and opting for the better and more advanced variant.
