Shortly after the launch of the Galaxy S25 Edge, a report suggested that the company may ditch its Galaxy S26+ model in favor of the S26 Edge next year. While the company has yet to confirm the report, the chances of going that route seem high. The final decision will likely depend on the demand for the Edge model, and it looks like consumers are already showing strong interest in the S25 Edge.
Samsung may consider discontinuing the Plus model in its upcoming flagship lineup
It won’t be surprising if Samsung ditches its Plus model in the Galaxy S series in the future. After all, the Galaxy S25+ is underperforming in terms of sales compared to the Standard and Ultra models in the lineup. In fact, the middle child has been selling the worst among the three siblings for several years in a row.
Now that the Galaxy S25 Edge is part of the flagship Galaxy S lineup, it appears to be filling the gap of the Plus variant as it offers the same larger display without reaching the Ultra’s price point. Noted tipster Max Jambor recently said that Samsung is considering replacing the Plus model with the next-gen Galaxy S26 Edge, though it has not finalized the decision.
The Korean firm is waiting to see how the Galaxy S25 Edge actually performs. The tipster further says that European providers are very happy with the device and expect high sales. Samsung itself seems optimistic that it will see high demand for its slim flagship Galaxy S model. It aims to make 1.3 million units of Galaxy S25 Edge across its global manufacturing hubs before the end of June. Given this momentum, the chances of skipping the Plus model next year appear to be high.
Samsung needs to improve the Edge lineup
Simply put, if Samsung sees strong sales of the Galaxy S25 Edge, it may ditch the upcoming Galaxy S26+ in favor of the Galaxy S26 Edge. However, Samsung has to work on the battery department for the next generation Edge model. A 3900mAh battery in a 6.7-inch phone is not sufficient for most users. On top of that, the lack of a dedicated telephoto zoom may not attract photography enthusiasts. If the Korean firm addresses these two concerns, the upcoming Galaxy S26 Edge could be a solid replacement for the Plus model, while offering a sleek design.
