One UI 8.5 Beta is Limited — But Galaxy S25’s December Update Expands Globally

While One UI 8.5 Beta may have received more attention, Samsung also rolled out a new security update to the Galaxy S25 series this week. Initially released in South Korea, the December 2025 security patch is now showing up in more regions. It should soon reach users worldwide.

Samsung’s One UI 8.5 Beta is limited to the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra in the US, the UK, Germany, and South Korea. The company plans to expand the program to India and Poland later this month, but the rest of the world won’t get early access to the new version. Users must wait until the stable release in the first half of 2026.

Ahead of that, Samsung will push several security patches to the Galaxy S25 lineup, at least one every month. This month’s security release first rolled out in Korea and is now making its way into global markets. We can confirm its availability in Europe, Africa, and Asia. Users in the US may get it in the coming days.

The December 2025 security update for the Galaxy S25 series carries the build version BYKS in most global markets, though it may vary in some regions (it’s BYKG in Korea). The OTA file size also varies depending on the model and region, but expect it to weigh around 600MB. The package contains more than 60 vulnerability fixes, including a few critical Android OS patches.

The file size is relatively large for a routine security patch, suggesting that Samsung may also be pushing additional optimizations and bug fixes. If you use a Galaxy S25, go to Settings > Software > Download and install to check for updates manually. If an update shows up, tap Update to proceed. Otherwise, wait a few days and check again.
