Samsung is actively working on the One UI 8.5 update for the Galaxy S23 series, though the lineup is unlikely to get beta access. Meanwhile, the company has released its December 2025 security update for the 2023 flagships. This follows earlier releases for the Galaxy S25, S24, S22, and other models.

Samsung’s December 2025 security update reaches Galaxy S23

As usual, this update is currently rolling out in Samsung’s home market of South Korea. Galaxy S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra users in the region are getting a new One UI 8-based firmware with the build version EYL1, and an OTA size of over 400MB. The company should gradually expand the rollout to other markets, including the US.

The December security patch, aka SMR (Security Maintenance Release), addresses nearly 70 vulnerabilities across the Galaxy family. These include Android OS patches from Google and One UI fixes from Samsung. Some of the fixes are labeled “critical” by Google. The Korean firm has already rolled out these patches for several devices, with more expected to join the party in the coming days.

If you own a Galaxy S23 or any other Samsung smartphone, you can check for new updates by heading to Settings > Software update > Download and install. The system will search for an available update on Samsung’s servers and prompt you to download it if found. You’ll need to restart your device to complete the installation.

While the December 2025 update may not contain any new features or functional improvements for the Galaxy S23 series, Samsung has a major release in the pipeline. As mentioned above, it is currently developing One UI 8.5 for the devices. Galaxy S25 users in some regions already have beta access, with the stable version coming in 2026. One UI 8.5 will debut with the Galaxy S26 series before expanding to other models.
