The tech world is eagerly waiting for Samsung’s Unpacked event tomorrow, where it will unveil the Galaxy S25 flagships alongside One UI 7. This Android 15-based update is poised to be Samsung’s biggest yet. Other eligible models will receive One UI 7 in the coming weeks. Ahead of that, Samsung is updating them to the latest security patch. The Galaxy S22 series recently received the January security update, alongside a few other devices.

January update hits Galaxy S22, Note 20, and more devices

Samsung’s January Security Maintenance Release (SMR) for Galaxy smartphones and tablets contains over 50 vulnerability patches. The bulk of those is Android OS patches from Google, including six critical fixes. Samsung has already updated several models to the latest SMR, including the Galaxy S24, Fold 6, and Flip 6. In fact, these three devices have received two January updates in some regions.

The Korean behemoth is rapidly expanding the new security patch to other eligible models, with the Galaxy S22 lineup being the latest entrant to the ever-growing list. The 2022 Samsung flagships are initially picking up the update in the US, starting with factory-unlocked units. The new firmware build number for the phones is S90*U1UES7EXL8. The update only brings this month’s security fixes with no additional changes.

The January SMR also recently rolled out to the Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra. Once again, the rollout began with unlocked units in the US, which received the build number N98*U1UESBHXL1. The changelog remains the same. The last Note phones will not receive the One UI 7 update. The devices didn’t even get One UI 6, as they were eligible for updates only up to Android 13.

The Galaxy S20 FE and Galaxy A54 are other Samsung phones that recently received the January security update. These devices will soon receive the new SMR globally. The former isn’t eligible for One UI 7 but the latter is. It may take a while for Samsung to roll out the big feature update to the 2023 mid-range phone, though. We will keep you posted with its One UI 7 updates, with the rollout expected to begin later this month.
