Galaxy S21 FE Receives Final Major Update in the US

About two weeks ago, Samsung began rolling out the Android 16–based One UI 8 update for the Galaxy S21 FE. Since then, the update has gradually expanded to more regions, and it’s now making its final stop in the US, where Samsung has started the official rollout. Notably, this marks the final major update for the 2021 Fan Edition device.

Those in the US are now receiving the final major update on their Galaxy S21 FE. The update comes with build versions G990USQUJIYJ2 and G990U2SQUHIYJ2, depending on the model number. Notably, it’s currently rolling out to carrier-locked variants, while unlocked models are expected to receive the update very soon.

If you own a carrier-locked Galaxy S21 FE in the US, you can check whether the One UI 8 update. You can head to Settings > Software update > Download and install. Once the update finishes downloading, tap Install now. Your phone will restart and boot up with the latest software.
The global rollout has also begun. So, if you haven’t received the update yet and you’re in another region, you may have to wait until next week. Samsung has been moving quickly with the One UI 8 rollout, so it shouldn’t take too long. The update brings a host of new features and improvements that you’ll definitely enjoy exploring.
When we say this is the final major update, it doesn’t rule out the possibility of the Galaxy S21 FE receiving a One UI 8.5 update later on. While One UI 8.5 includes several new additions, it’s still considered a minor (“point”) updatetechnically. So, there’s a good chance it will get the One UI 8.5 update down the line.
