Galaxy Phones Get KT’s New AI Voice Phishing Detection Service

KT, a South Korean telecommunications company, has launched the second generation of its AI voice phishing detection service. It recognizes both criminals’ actual voices and AI-generated voices, protecting users from phone-based financial crimes. The service is available on select Samsung Galaxy smartphones in the company’s home country.

KT’s AI voice phishing detection technology previously offered a context-based detection feature. Now, the company has improved the technology by teaming up with the public and private sectors, including the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Personal Information Protection Commission, and the National Forensic Service. According to a report from Etnews, the carrier recently commercialized its upgraded service dubbed “AI Voice Phishing Detection Service 2.0.”
One of the notable features of this service is speaker recognition. It uses voice data from real voice phishing criminals, provided by the National Forensic Service. This allows the system to detect criminal activity and stop scam calls. Another useful feature is deep voice detection — it identifies AI-generated voices using AI text-to-speech (TTS) technology.

KT says its new AI voice phishing detection service aims to prevent more than KRW 200 billion in damage (value of phone-based financial scam) annually, with over 95% accuracy. Lee Hyun-seok, Vice President of Customer at KT, said, “With the commercialization of this technology, we will further strengthen our collaboration with the financial sector to dramatically reduce customer losses.”
If you are a Samsung smartphone user and reside in South Korea, you are in luck. The AI Voice Phishing Detection Service 2.0 is currently available on Samsung Galaxy S23 series and newer models. You need to install the WhoWho app on an eligible Galaxy device to start using the service. The good thing is that the service is available regardless of your mobile carrier, meaning even if you are not a KT customer, you can still benefit from the protection. KT says it will bring this service to more devices in the future.
