Samsung’s March security update is now available for the Galaxy A55. Last year’s leading A series phone is currently receiving the latest security patch in Europe. The update should soon reach other markets. It should be followed by the first One UI 7.0 beta release, which is confirmed to arrive this month.
Galaxy A55 grabs the March security update ahead of One UI 7.0 beta
Last week, Samsung finally expanded its One UI 7.0 beta program beyond the Galaxy S24 series. The beta update is now available for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6. The company has already announced plans to release beta updates for the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Tab S10 series, and Galaxy A55 later this month.
Yesterday, Samsung rolled out the March security update to the Galaxy S23 lineup, likely preparing the phones for the beta release — it also updated the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 to the March SMR (Security Maintenance Release) before rolling out One UI 7.0 beta. The Galaxy A55 just followed suit, starting in Europe.
The March update for the 2024 mid-ranger carries the firmware build number A556BXXS6AYB4. The official changelog confirms that the phone isn’t getting anything more than this month’s security fixes. “The device is protected with improved security,” Samsung’s release notes state.
The Korean behemoth has already revealed that the March SMR for Galaxy smartphones and tablets contains over 50 vulnerabilities patches, at least 11 of which are critical Android OS fixes. The update also addresses several Galaxy-specific vulnerabilities of varying severity. These patches should soon reach Galaxy A55 users worldwide.
As far as One UI 7.0 beta is concerned, it will be only available in the UK, the US, South Korea, and India. Samsung doesn’t plan to launch beta updates anywhere else, not even in Germany and Poland — Galaxy S24’s beta program is also available in these two European countries. Interested users can register through the Samsung Members app.
