Future Samsung Galaxy Devices Could Feature Advanced NFC

Samsung’s future Galaxy devices could feature advanced NFC technology. NFC Forum recently announced plans to upgrade NFC standards, including faster data transfer, improved security, and more. As such, the Korean firm should be able to offer a smoother NFC experience across its devices, including smartphones and wearables, in the future.
NFC Forum shares upgrade plans, and Samsung stands to benefit
For the uninitiated, NFC Forum is a community-led organization that sets standards for NFC technology. It has planned to make several key improvements to the technology in 2026. The most noticeable upgrade will be faster data transfer speeds. Current NFC connections transfer data at 106 kilobits per second (kbps). After improvement, speeds could increase up to 848 kbps, which is eight times faster. This means that tapping your Galaxy device to make payments or share files could see much faster performance.
Another key focus area is reader mode interoperability. NFC Forum aims to deliver end-to-end interoperability so that new and updated applications run on certified devices seamlessly. As such, we could see improvement in NFC Reader Mode reliability across all use cases.
NFC Forum developed the NFC Wireless Charging Standard to charge small IoT devices. Currently, it delivers up to 1 watt of power, offering benefits such as flexible antenna designs and sealed housings that stop corrosion. The organization is now aiming to optimize charging up to 3 watts.
The organization also planned to advance multi-purpose taps, thanks to the extensive global adoption of NFC Forum standards on smartphones. This will let users complete multiple actions at the same time. For example, transactions that go through several stages can be completed in just a single tap.
NFC Forum is introducing its first-ever NFC Controllers Security Profile to protect devices against post-quantum computing threats. For Galaxy users, this will enable safer contactless payments. Last but not the least, NFC upgrades will bring an innovative new digital key experience.
