Foldable iPhone May Bring Back a Feature Galaxy Z Fold 7 Gave Up On

In the US, Samsung continues to dominate the foldable market, but its reign could soon be challenged, as Apple is rumored to be planning the launch of a foldable iPhone next year. The rumor mill has long suggested a 2026 debut, and that timeline is fast approaching. As we move closer, more details are coming into focus, including insights from JP Morgan.
Apple could bless the foldable iPhone with 24MP under-display camera
In a document presented by JP Morgan (via Max Weinbach), which also mentioned that Apple might not retire the iPhone Air for at least two more generations, analysts revealed a key detail about Apple’s first foldable iPhone. According to the report, Apple’s foldable iPhone could feature an under-display camera (UDC), something the company has never used in any of its products so far.

The document also notes that the foldable iPhone’s UDC could use a 24MP sensor. For comparison, Samsung has been using under-display camera technology in its Galaxy Z Fold lineup since 2021, starting with the Fold 3. However, the last time a Samsung foldable featured a UDC was in 2024 with the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Both the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition and the latest Galaxy Z Fold 7 have dropped the feature entirely, and it remains unclear if Samsung plans to bring it back.
That said, Apple could take the UDC approach further by introducing a 24MP sensor, which would represent a major improvement. In contrast, Samsung never upgraded its UDC sensor, sticking with a modest 4MP unit until it seemingly decided that users would not miss it and quietly removed it. So, let me put it this way. Will Samsung fix what it never intended to in the first place with the Galaxy Z Fold 8?
