First Official Details of Samsung’s Smart Glasses Revealed

What we have been hearing for long is that Samsung is actively working on smart glasses, and a company executive has now revealed some early details about it. On the sidelines of MWC 2026 in Barcelona that took place earlier this week, Samsung’s Jay Kim revealed key details about Samsung’s smart glasses.
Samsung’s smart glasses will include a built-in camera at eye level
Speaking to CNBC, Jay Kim, executive vice president of Samsung’s MX, said the device will include a built-in camera at eye level. The glasses will rely heavily on a connected smartphone to process the visual data captured by the camera. Most of the heavy computing won’t happen on the eyewear itself.
The design shows Samsung wants to put AI at the centre of the experience. With a camera at eye level, the system can understand what the user is looking at and send that data to a smartphone for analysis. Kim said the goal is for AI to interpret the visual input and return useful information to the user.
The approach could enable features like contextual help, object recognition, or AI suggestions without users needing to constantly interact with their phone. Kim declined to confirm whether the glasses will include a built-in display. Instead, he suggested users may rely on devices like smartphones or smartwatches for screen interactions.
Samsung’s smart glasses project is a three-way effort
Samsung’s project is part of a broader extended reality effort with partners including Qualcomm and Google. The companies are working on chips, hardware, and the Android XR platform for mixed reality devices. Last year, Samsung’s Galaxy XR became the first product to run Android XR. The company had also hinted at its plans during Galaxy Unpacked 2025.
Samsung aims to have a version of the smart glasses ready for release later this year. That lines up with earlier rumors. SammyGuru had exclusively also reported that Nearby Device Scanning added Quick Pair support for glasses.
Kim’s refusal to confirm whether the glasses will include a display isn’t surprising. A report from GalaxyClub last year said Samsung is working on two smart glasses, but only one may include a display. That version could arrive in 2027. It’ll be interesting to see what Samsung plans for 2026. The year has just begun, and it’s already looking busy.
