Fake Samsung Premium Galaxy Phones with Altered IMEIs Seized

Fake phones are common in the market, made to look like real ones but with cheap parts. Delhi Police have recently busted a major racket in Karol Bagh, India, that was assembling and selling fake Samsung Galaxy phones as genuine devices. The racket focused on premium Galaxy models, such as Ultra, Fold, and Flip.

Delhi Police seized more than 500 fake Galaxy phones

According to a report from NDTV, the gang was importing spare parts from China, including motherboards, cameras, speakers, back glass, and body frames. They used these parts with old or stolen phone components to assemble phones, giving a brand-new look. Moreover, they pasted fake IMEI numbers on each device.

On December 13, police received a tip-off about a shop in Beadonpura, Karol Bagh, for these illegal activities. During the raid, authorities recovered 512 assembled Samsung phones (mainly Fold and Flip models), 124 motherboards, 138 mobile batteries, and 459 fake IMEI stickers (marked with Made in Vietnam). Furthermore, they recovered a bunch of mobile accessories and assembly tools.

The team caught four people red-handed while assembling the devices inside the shop. A case has been registered at Karol Bagh Police Station, and legal proceedings are underway.

Investigation revealed that the mastermind of the racket only completed the 8th standard and has no formal technical education. The gang sold counterfeit phones at prices ranging from INR 35,000 to INR 40,000 per unit, almost one-third of the actual prices of original devices. Delhi Police are now tracing the supply chain, identifying buyers, and working to dismantle the entire criminal network behind the racket.
