The folks over at Samsung are hard at work completely overhauling the design of their One UI software. One UI 7 was the first step in that direction, and One UI 8 inches closer to that mission. Various apps have been updated thus far, like Weather, Gallery and My Files. Now we have another app to show off, Samsung Internet.
Your first look at Samsung Internet’s redesign
The homepage gets a major overhaul, with a cleaned up user interface. There is a background image instead of the solid colour we had previously. This is intended to be customisable, but we couldn’t get this working. Elements have much more spacing around them, and is not as densely populated. There is a carousel of recently visited websites from devices linked to your Samsung Account. There’s a search bar, that appears at the top or bottom of your screen, depending on your settings. And the cherry on top, there is blur on most elements, like the Privacy Report.
New menu redesign aligns with other One UI 8 apps
There is also a new pop up menu that appears when the three-line button is tapped. This now has been redesigned, with 5 circular buttons and a grid of icons below. This is very similar to the recent Gallery app redesign in One UI 8.0. The top contained icons are themed according to the device colour palette. And the background of the entire pop up is now blurred, also aligning with One UI 8’s design changes. When viewing a web page, the menu will show the site’s title and a share button.
Overall, this One UI 8.0 style redesign is fantastic. The menu now looks less chaotic, with commonly used items at the top. The home page is much less overwhelming now, and feels much more welcoming when starting a new browsing session. There are some rough edges, as this is not final. But some excellent progress has been made, and we cannot wait to see what else Samsung has in store for us.
