The long-awaited Home Up update for One UI 8.5 has finally arrived, and with it, a ton of new features. The official changelog mentioned a few notable additions, but that’s not it. Here is a deep dive into every new feature in the latest version of Home Up.

Edit labels on home screen shortcuts

You can finally change the labels on apps placed on your home screen! This lets you rename any app to whatever you like. You can rename X back to Twitter, or trim the Beta out of Telegram Beta (or let your imagination run wild). You can even change the color of the label.

Resize large folders

Home Up now lets you resize large folders placed on your home screen. You can make them as small or as large as you please. This gives you a denser grid to launch more of your favourite apps quickly, or leave more space for widgets or your wallpaper.

You can also now adjust the scaling of widgets. This lets you adjust how zoomed-in widgets are. This can make sure third-party widgets don’t appear too small, or too large (Looking at you, Todoist). You can also remove the blur effect on first-party widgets if you so desire.

Edge panels got a clean-up

The settings for the Edge Panels got a much-needed tidy up. Settings like More Items in Apps Edge get their own subpage. This makes finding the toggle you need much easier.

In addition, there’s a new option called Integrated Panel, which merges the Contacts panel into the Apps panel. This reduces the number of swipes you need to contact someone or quickly open an app.

Other major areas like Animation Tuning and DIY Home remain identical to before. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, as they are highly praised features that fans love. But some menus would have benefited from a tidy up, like the long list of advanced gesture tuning settings.

Note:

This update is only supported on One UI 8.5. While it’ll install on One UI 8, new features don’t work. Worse, your existing Home Up settings are reset if you install the new build on devices running One UI 8.
