Epic Games, the company behind Fortnite and the Unreal Engine, has reportedly inked a deal with Google. The deal, worth $800 million over six years, comes after years of legal battles between the two companies. The contract terms remain under wraps, though it involves Android, Unreal Engine, and joint product development.

Epic Games and Google are planning to work together on business projects

The deal between Epic Games and Google came to light during a recent court hearing about Epic’s antitrust case against Google. California District Judge James Donato revealed that the partnership includes “joint product development, joint marketing commitment, [and] joint partnerships.” Epic will help Google market Android, while Google will use Epic’s core technology. Both companies got permission to keep most of the deal’s details secret.

Donato questioned Epic, “You’re going to be helping Google market Android, and they’re going to be helping you market Fortnite; that deal doesn’t exist today, right?” In response, Epic confirmed it as a “new business between Epic and Google.”

Epic CEO Tim Sweeney also suggested the partnership could relate to the metaverse. “Epic’s technology is used by many companies in the space Google is operating in to train their products, so the ability for Google to use the Unreal Engine more fullsome… sorry, I’m blowing this confidentiality,” said the CEO.

In case you are unaware, Google and Epic Games reached a settlement in November, 2025. This ends a five-year antitrust legal battle that started in 2020. The battle began when Epic introduced a way for Fortnite players to pay directly, bypassing Google’s 30% app store commission. As such, Google removed the game from the Google Play Store. However, new details from the court now show that the agreement is much more than just a legal settlement. We will let you know if more details about the deal surface on the web.
