Does the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge Support MagSafe?

Samsung has finally pulled the curtains on its ultra-slim flagship Galaxy S phone, the Galaxy S25 Edge. The phone not only focuses on a slim form factor, but it also bundles flagship-level hardware with a few compromises. While you may have already learned most of its specifications, a few questions may still arise. One such question is whether the phone has MagSafe technology. As it is not a straightforward answer, we will discuss further in this article.

Galaxy S25 Edge doesn’t have built-in magnets – but there’s a catch

MagSafe is a magnetic technology from Apple that uses magnets to align iPhones with MagSafe accessories like cases. But when it comes to Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge — and the rest of the S25 family — it does not feature built-in MagSafe technology. However, it supports the Qi2 wireless charging standard that makes it possible to enable MagSafe-like functionality through a compatible case.

In case you are unaware, Qi2 is the wireless charging standard from the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC). WPC says Qi2 devices feature Magnetic Power Profile technology, which aligns devices and chargers perfectly for faster charging up to 15W. However, in January 2025, the WPC introduced a new Qi2 extension called Qi2 Ready.

The official press release mentions, “The growth of the Qi2 ecosystem will continue with the introduction of Qi2 Ready certified devices. These devices—smartphones and accessories such as cases—deliver the full Qi2 user experience when paired together in approved combinations.”

Like the rest of the models in the Galaxy S25 series, Samsung has also adopted the “Qi2 Ready” approach for the Galaxy S25 Edge, meaning it doesn’t fully support the Qi2 wireless charging protocol. You will need to buy cases that include a magnetic ring to take advantage of faster wireless charging offered by Qi2. Simply put, the Galaxy S25 Edge does not have built-in magnets or native MagSafe like Apple, but it supports Qi2 Ready wireless charging (up to 15W) through a magnetic case.
