Circle to Search Finally Routes Follow-Up Questions to Google’s AI Mode

Circle to Search is one feature that has evolved to become so much better and remains relevant even though it came out almost two years ago. I say this because many features from that time are no longer relevant. That’s partly due to Google and partners like Samsung giving it consistent shoutouts, which keeps it in the spotlight.

Circle to Search feels more natural after Google’s latest AI tweak

Google has been steadily weaving AI Mode deeper into the Android experience, and it looks like Circle to Search is now getting one of its biggest upgrades yet. You could circle something on your screen and get an AI-backed result. But the moment you typed a follow-up question, the system switched back to regular image search. That changes with the latest Google app update v16.47.49 (via Android Authority).

The update introduces a new search bar that sits at the bottom of the Circle to Search results page. Any follow-up queries you enter here now go straight to AI Mode instead of the older non-AI results. It feels like a small tweak, but it completely changes how natural and conversational the feature becomes. You can finally stay inside AI Mode from the moment you circle an item to the point where you start exploring it in more depth.

Google actually teased this workflow months ago in July, but the functionality never reached users in any meaningful way. You were supposed to long-press the home button, circle or tap what you wanted to search, and scroll down to an option that let you explore more with AI Mode. The idea sounded good, but the real rollout never caught up. With this new app version, the company now seems to have delivered the experience it originally promised.
