Some days, we don’t want app updates to cram in a bunch of flashy AI features. Sometimes, we just want them to make life a little easier — something that saves us time. That’s exactly what Google is doing. With the latest update, Chrome can now autofill in your passport details, driver’s license, vehicle registration info, and more.

Chrome’s new enhanced autofill makes filling in important details quicker

Until now, Chrome could only manage basic information like addresses, passwords, and payment details. The new Enhanced Autofill feature kicks things up a notch by recognizing more complex forms and adjusting to different formatting styles. So whether you’re booking a rental car, applying for a job, or filling out government paperwork, Chrome should be able to pull up the right details in no time.

The feature is turned off by default, but desktop users can enable it by going to Settings > Autofill and passwords > Enhanced autofill. Once it’s on, Chrome will prompt you to save new types of information as you enter them. For example, if you type in your passport number or driver’s license ID on a form, Chrome can offer to remember it for the next time you need it.

“We’ve designed enhanced autofill to be private and secure,” says Google

Google says security remains front and center. The browser will only store your information with explicit permission and will encrypt it once it’s saved. You’ll also need to confirm before Chrome fills in any stored details on a website. However, the company points out that turning on Enhanced Autofill means a page’s URL and some of its content may be shared with Google to fine-tune accuracy and suggestions.

The rollout begins today and will reach users worldwide over the next few weeks, with support for all languages. Google also hinted that even more data types will be added in the coming months. There’s no word yet on when the feature will land on Android or iOS. But we’re keeping our fingers crossed for a release sometime soon.
