Check Out Samsung’s Flip Animation for Brightness Slider in One UI 8.5

Samsung appears to be bringing a major overhaul to its operating system with One UI 8.5. The update will not only introduce new features and design tweaks but also add some new animations. One of the most noticeable animations lies within the brightness slider in the Quick Panel, which triggers when you long-press the slider to access the menu.
One UI 8.5 early build adds a stylish flip within the brightness slider
Alongside rolling out the Android 16-based One UI 8 for eligible Galaxy devices, Samsung is also developing its next version, One UI 8.5, simultaneously. Thanks to early builds, we already have a clear picture of what the company is cooking up with its upcoming software. We recently managed to install it on our Galaxy smartphone and noticed a fresh set of changes.
The update will now allow you to customize the Quick Panel, giving flexibility in how you manage the buttons. You can resize, rearrange, and even group them together for a personalized panel look and improved functionality. More notably, the brightness and volume sliders can now be switched to vertical. In earlier One UI versions, you could only use them in a horizontal layout. That said, the default layout may still remain horizontal, but the ability to set it vertically brings a fresh twist.

Furthermore, Samsung has added a super cute flip animation within the brightness slider. As you can see in the video above, when we long-press the slider, it performs a smooth flipping motion. This makes adjusting the brightness feel more appealing in the brightness menu. The company has also redesigned the menu interface — the corners of the main brightness panel are less rounded compared to those in One UI 8.
Note that this is a very early version of the One UI 8.5, so Samsung might make some changes in future builds. As @kumarkaustubh03 points out, the vertical slider sits too close to the top of the widget window. Additionally, the subtle bounce that appears when opening the menu is missing in this build. We will learn more about it as development progresses. Stay tuned.
