Samsung has officially started rolling out One UI 8 to the Galaxy S22 lineup. These are the oldest flagships eligible for the big Android 16 update (the Galaxy S21 series isn’t getting One UI 8). The update is also now available for the Galaxy A25. The rollout begins in Europe, with a global expansion expected later this week.

Galaxy S22 series and Galaxy A25 get Samsung’s One UI 8 update

One UI 8 is the fourth and final major OS update for the Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra. Users of these 2022 flagships can now enjoy a modern, refined Android experience, as well as new AI features, UI upgrades, and camera enhancements. This update also brings enhanced customization options, upgraded multitasking capabilities, and improved usability across various apps and device functions.

For a change, the Galaxy S22 series is initially picking up One UI 8 in Europe. Until now, Samsung has begun One UI 8 rollouts for all other devices in Korea. European S22 users are getting the big update with the firmware build version GYI7. The OTA (over the air) package weighs over 3.1GB for the Ultra model and bundles the September 2025 security patch.

The Galaxy A25 is also initially receiving One UI 8 in Europe, picking up the build number A256BXXU8DYI8. This mid-range phone misses out on AI advancements, but gets key UI changes and functional upgrades. Expect a global rollout for all of these devices in the coming days.

While the Galaxy S22 series won’t get Android 17 (One UI 9), Samsung is expected to update the devices to One UI 8.5 next year. This “point” update will debut with the Galaxy S26 series in early 2026, introducing a host of upgrades. It refines the One UI design language while adding several new features and enhancements. Samsung is actively developing One UI 8.5 as it expands the One UI 8 rollout globally.
