Giving a kid their first smartphone is still one of those parenting decisions that feels harder than it should. You want the safety and peace of mind, but not the endless apps and screen time that come with a regular phone. AT&T says it’s offering a cleaner answer this time, working closely with Samsung on a device meant to be a kid’s phone from day one.

AT&T and Samsung built a kid’s phone that starts simple (and that’s nice!)

According to AT&T, the new amiGO Jr. Phone skips the usual compromise by baking parental controls directly into the experience. Instead of handing over a Galaxy or iPhone and locking it down later, parents get a phone that starts simple and stays that way.

With help from Samsung on the hardware side, AT&T added its own software layer and the free amiGO app, which lets parents manage screen time, approve apps, set school schedules, and track location from their own phone. Features like Safe Zones and real-time alerts are clearly aimed at families who mostly want a reliable way to stay connected.

Under the hood, the AT&T and Samsung partnership delivers familiar specs, including a 6.7-inch display, an Exynos 1330 chip, 4GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and a 5,000mAh battery. Eagle-eyed Samsung fans may have already noticed the specs suggest it’s essentially a Galaxy A17 in disguise. It just happens to come with specialized software.

AT&T is also keeping pricing approachable, offering the amiGO Jr. Phone for $2.99 per month with no trade-in required. The same monthly price applies to the new amiGO Jr. Watch 2, which adds better durability, messaging, and simple games.
