Apple TV Now Available on Galaxy Phones, One Major Win and One Big Flaw

After several years since its launch, the Apple TV app is finally available on Android devices, including Galaxy devices. You can try out the Apple TV app by downloading it from the Google Play Store. Previously, it was only available on Apple devices and Google TVs. Like many streaming services, it misses out on some features but improves others.

In a newsroom post, Apple announced that its TV app includes “Continue Watching,” which lets you pick up where you left off across devices. For example, if you’re watching something and pause it on your phone, you can continue watching on another device, such as your TV or tablet. It also features Watchlist, allowing you to plan what to watch. Additionally, you can download some titles for offline viewing while traveling.

Apple TV app on Android has a feature that’s making iPhone users jealous

Ryan Christoffel of 9to5Mac reports that there’s one thing on Apple TV’s Android app that iPhone users would love to have. The Android app nails the saying “less is more,” according to Christoffel. It features only content from Apple TV+ and its soccer streamer. “Open the Apple TV app on Android, and you’ll find only content that can be streamed via TV+.” It’s simple and to the point, offering Android users the same convenience as other streaming apps. On iPhone, Christoffel says the TV+ experience is “far more confusing.”

Not all that glitters is gold, however

Even though the Apple TV app on Android gets one thing right compared to the iPhone version, there’s still a major limitation. Apple hasn’t yet added support for casting with the Apple TV app on Android. According to SmartPrix’s Mehtab Ansari, “Apple hasn’t added support for casting via AirPlay, Google Cast, or Miracast.” This means you can’t stream Apple TV+ titles to a TV or other smart display. Hopefully, Apple will address this in a future update, but for now, things are pretty limited.

The Apple TV app requires Android 10 or later and currently offers a free seven-day trial for new users.
