Samsung may soon have a worthy rival at its doorstep, as Apple plans to unveil the iPhone Fold in 2026. This isn’t exactly new, since reports of Apple working on a foldable device have been circulating for a long time. In fact, there’s a strong possibility that Samsung Display could end up being the sole display supplier for the iPhone Fold.

Apple is reportedly planning a battery boost for the iPhone Fold

A new rumor from Yeux1122 claims that the iPhone Fold will beat Samsung to the punch when it comes to battery capacity. According to the leaker, Apple is testing a 5,400 to 5,800 mAh battery for the iPhone Fold. For comparison, the current Galaxy Z Fold 7 (avl. for $1,399 with a free storage upgrade) has a 4,400 mAh battery.

Samsung has also not increased the battery capacity of the Galaxy Z Fold line since the original Galaxy Fold in 2019. A recent report suggests that Samsung could raise the battery capacity to 5,000 mAh for the Galaxy Z Fold 8. Even if that turns out to be accurate, the iPhone Fold would still have an advantage if the latest leak is true.

The leaker also claims that Apple will achieve this by accepting a thicker form factor, which would make the device slightly heavier. We do not know how accurate any of this is, and no other sources are making the same claims yet. For now, it is best to take all of this with a pinch of salt.

In related news, a previous report suggested that the iPhone Fold may feature an under-display camera on its inner screen. Samsung used under-display cameras in earlier foldables as well. However, starting with the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition in 2024, the company removed the feature. As a result, it’s missing from the Galaxy Z Fold 7 too. There is still no indication of whether Samsung plans to bring back the under-display camera.
