Apple Faces Lawsuit Over Delayed and Allegedly Misleading Apple Intelligence Promises

by | Mar 24, 2025 | News

Apple is facing a class-action lawsuit for “misleading” consumers about the capabilities of its Apple Intelligence system. Filed in a US district court, the lawsuit alleges that Apple exaggerated the Apple Intelligence (AI) features in its marketing, leading users to believe they would have access to advanced functionalities that have yet to materialize. This comes just days after the company admitted to the delay in a statement to Daring Fireball, confirming that Apple Intelligence won’t be available until 2026.

Apple under hot waters for allegedly misleading Apple Intelligence promises, lawsuit arrives

This lawsuit comes as Samsung moves ahead with major AI advancements, especially in its Galaxy S25 series, which already offers a range of AI-driven features. Galaxy AI’s Object Eraser, for example, continues to outshine Apple Intelligence’s Clean Up tool. While Samsung pushes the boundaries of AI-powered features, Apple is under growing pressure to deliver on its promises.

The legal action follows rising frustration from mainly consumers. Apple initially suggested Apple Intelligence would launch with iOS 18 but later clarified it would roll out in phases. While staggered releases are common, the lawsuit argues that Apple’s marketing made it seem like these AI features would be available from day one. The complaint also notes that Apple has since added disclaimers to its website, an implicit admission that it wasn’t upfront from the start. Meanwhile, Apple has appointed a new team lead for Apple Intelligence.

As of writing, Apple hasn’t issued a statement to any media outlet. We’ll update this story if it does.

If the lawsuit succeeds, Apple could face financial penalties, refund claims, and increased scrutiny over future AI announcements. For now, Apple Intelligence remains a work in progress. But this case is a clear warning for phone makers: overpromising without delivering can have legal consequences. What’s your take on this, if you have an Apple device that claims to support Apple Intelligence?
