Android 17 may take its sweet time to arrive, possibly not until June 2026, but the first wave of visual leaks is already here. Android 16 introduced blur and translucent elements, and Android 17 could take things to the next level. There seems to be even more blur on the way.

Android 17 could be leaning hard into blur and translucent design

9to5Google reports that, based on an internal build the outlet has seen, Android 17 will likely feature more translucent and blur elements at the system level. The outlet says the volume slider will sit in a see-through, pill-shaped bar, letting your wallpaper or the app behind it show through. Other menus, including volume and power, will also appear blurred and pick up your theme colors.

Now we may have our first look at those visual changes. A Telegram user reached out to Android Authority and shared the images that show the upcoming design changes in Android 17.

From the images, it’s clear that Android 17 leans further into translucent and blurred system elements. In other way, you could say Google is taking a page from iOS 26 and its Liquid Glass look.

The bigger question is how much of this will carry over to One UI 9. Since One UI 9 will be based on Android 17 and could launch in the summer on upcoming foldables, Samsung may adopt some of these system-level effects. That said, One UI 8.5 (based on Android 16 QPR2) is already going to bring a large batch of changes. So it’ll be interesting to see how much more Samsung adds on top of that.
