Android 17 Enters Beta Soon — Galaxy Users Await One UI 9

Google is gearing up to launch its next big version of Android. The company has confirmed Android 17 will enter beta testing soon. While Pixel owners will be first to get the taste of the new software, Samsung Galaxy users may not be far behind. Android 17-based One UI 9 beta should follow a few months later.
Google confirms Android 17 beta is just around the corner
Google usually releases Developer Preview builds of a major Android version, then opens a public beta program. This time, the company appears to be changing its strategy — skipping Developer Previews and jumping directly to the Android 17 public beta.
“Android 17 Beta 1 will kick soon,” said Google on a Reddit post. “It builds on top of the Android 16 QPR platform release and includes the latest bug fixes and improvements to stability and performance.” This will also mark the Beta program cycle that covers Android 17 Platform Release (26Q2).
While Google has not revealed an exact date, reports suggest the first Android 17 beta could go official on or around February 18. Several beta builds are likely to follow in the next few months, with the stable version of Android 17 should roll out in June 2026. As usual, Pixel devices will receive Android 17 beta first. However, Galaxy device owners will have to wait a bit longer for One UI 9.
If Samsung follows its update plan from last year, the One UI 9 beta program could begin in May, starting with the Galaxy S26 series. The company’s next-generation foldables (Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Flip 8, and rumored Galaxy Wide Fold) may ship with stable One UI 9 out of the box, likely around July 2026. It may then begin to expand the One UI 9 beta and stable updates to older Galaxy models in phases.
For now, all eyes are on the stable One UI 8.5 (based on Android 16 QPR2) that could ship with the upcoming Galaxy S26 series. We’ll let you know as soon as more about One UI 9 (Android 17) becomes available.
