Android 17 Beta 3 Lands, One Step Away From Stable Release

Android 17 Beta 3 is here with platform stability. This means the next-gen mobile OS is one step closer to the final stable release. The update brings a host of new features to improve the user experience. Some of which should make their way to Samsung’s upcoming One UI 9.
Android 17 Beta 3 brings platform stability and new features
Google released the first Android 17 beta on February 13, followed by Beta 2 on February 26. After about a month of testing, Beta 3 has arrived today with a key achievement in the development cycle. Developers can start final testing of their apps for full compatibility ahead of the public launch. The company could push the stable build sometime in June 2026.
With Android 17 Beta 3, Google has brought several new improvements focused on multitasking, customization, and usability. Thanks to the bubbles feature, any app can open in a floating window on top of other apps. This makes it easier to use tools without leaving the current screen.

Another key addition is the ability to hide app labels on the home screen. This gives users a more minimal look, though it does not affect the app drawer or folders. The company has also improved the screen-recording experience with the floating toolbar. You can now easily access recording tools and capture settings. Once a recording is finished, you can quickly edit, delete, or share it.
Furthermore, Android 17 Beta 3 brings improvements to interactive picture-in-picture mode in desktop windowing. This lets PiP windows remain interactive while staying on top of other application windows. This comes in handy when you are multitasking, such as keeping a video call active while working in other apps.

Meanwhile, Samsung is also testing its Android 17-based One UI 9 internally, though there is no word on beta availability. We’ll let you know once the Korean firm kicks off its beta program for the next-gen OS.
