Android 16 Is Almost Ready, While One UI 7.0 Struggles Continue

At a time when Galaxy users are waiting for the stable Android 15-based One UI 7.0 update, Android 16 is nearly ready. Given how quickly Google is releasing one beta after another, it wouldn’t be surprising if Android 16 reaches Pixel users long before all eligible Galaxy phones get the long-overdue Android 15 update. Speaking of which, Google is now rolling out Android 16 Beta 2.1 with a number of fixes.

Google rolls out Android 16 Beta 2.1 with a bunch of fixes

What comes as a minor update to the two-week-old Android 16 Beta 2, Beta 2.1 (BP22.250124.010) fixes several issues, which Google has thankfully outlined.

  • Fixed an issue that sometimes prevented devices from entering Doze mode. (Issue #396603519)
  • Fixed issues that caused some animations to appear choppy while configuring live wallpapers. (Issue #397659072)
  • Fixed an issue that sometimes caused devices to reboot unexpectedly. (Issue #396541565)
  • Fixed various other issues that were impacting system stability, connectivity, and performance.

With Android 16 Beta 2.1, Google has rolled out two major beta updates and one minor update so far. The first Android 16 public beta (Beta 1) began rolling out on January 23, 2023. Yes, just a day after Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S25 series with One UI 7.0 right out of the box.

To be fair, if Google does release Android 16 earlier than expected, it could mean that One UI 8.0 will be launched a bit sooner as well. We might see the One UI 8.0 beta roll out much earlier compared to One UI 7.0, which has struggled with multiple delays. We’re still on the fourth One UI 7.0 beta, and some devices like the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Z Fold 7, and Flip 7 are still waiting for beta updates.

So, can you try the Android 16 Beta 2.1 update just yet? Yes and no. You can definitely try the minor update on Pixel 6 and later models. But as usual, none of the Samsung devices are eligible.
