Samsung’s One UI 8.5 beta is taking an unexpected turn. The company now appears to be planning a wider beta expansion, which could impact the stable rollout and delay it further. While some users may welcome beta access, those waiting for the stable update may not be too happy with this shift.

Wider One UI 8.5 Beta rollout could push stable update to May

Several devices have already entered the One UI 8.5 beta phase. This time, Samsung has also included Fan Edition models and Galaxy tablets. Alongside the Galaxy S25 series, Z Fold 7 and Flip 7, the beta is live for the Galaxy S24 series, S24 FE, S25 FE, Tab S11 and Tab S11 Ultra. Samsung has also hinted that more devices will join the beta program in April.

Although not officially confirmed, the beta could expand to devices like the Galaxy Tab S10 series and a few A series models. Here are some devices that may receive the One UI 8.5 beta in April:

What about One UI 8.5 stable?

The stable rollout may face delays. With more devices entering beta, April could be fully occupied with multiple beta updates for each eligible model.

The stable rollout could now begin around the first or second week of May, or even later. It should start with the Galaxy S25 lineup and possibly foldables like the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7. Midrange phones and tablets should follow after that.

In a best-case scenario, the full rollout may take around three months. A faster rollout is possible, but it seems unlikely right now.

How does this affect One UI 9?

One UI 9, based on Android 17, is expected to debut around July alongside Samsung’s next foldables, likely the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Flip 8, and the Wide Fold. If Samsung begins One UI 9 beta testing around June for devices like the Galaxy S26 series, it could overlap with the One UI 8.5 stable rollout.

A delay or confusion similar to One UI 7, or even worse, is possible. However, Samsung loves to surprise us and could change its plans.

That said, this is based on past trends. We should get a clearer picture in the coming weeks.
