Samsung and SK Hynix are among South Korea’s leading companies. At the moment, their market caps stand at roughly $900B and $469B, which puts them at 13th and 22nd among the world’s most valuable companies. But a new report suggests that job seekers are increasingly choosing SK Hynix over Samsung Electronics.

SK Hynix becomes more attractive than Samsung for job seekers

A survey by Saramin, one of South Korea’s job search platforms, found that 20 percent of respondents want to work at SK Hynix, compared to 18.9 percent who prefer Samsung Electronics. The survey covered 2,304 job seekers, according to Korea Times.

High pay remains a major draw for both companies. SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics are known for strong salaries and job stability, which makes them top choices in South Korea’s tech sector. But SK Hynix appears to have gained an edge after reporting a record operating profit of $31.4B, beating Samsung Electronics for the first time.

Following that performance, SK Hynix rewarded employees generously. In February, it announced bonuses worth 2,964 percent of a worker’s base monthly salary. That kind of payout highlights how compensation can shape employer preference.

Workplace dynamics also play a role. Protests and union activity have been more visible at Samsung Electronics in recent years. SK Hynix has faced disputes too, mostly around pay and bonuses, but they’ve been smaller and less frequent. Overall, labor tensions seem more pronounced at Samsung.
