What Not to Do When Your Galaxy Ring Battery Dies

Wearable tech is designed to quietly blend into daily life, so it’s easy to forget there’s a battery sitting against your skin. A recent Reddit post involving Samsung’s Galaxy Ring is a good reminder of why battery issues should never be ignored. It also gives us a valuable lesson on what not to do when your ring stops holding a charge.
Stop wearing your Galaxy Ring if the battery dies
In the post, the user said their Galaxy Ring stopped holding a charge after around nine months of use. Since the wearable was still under warranty, they could have easily gotten it replaced from Samsung. However, instead of seeking a replacement, they continued wearing a dead ring simply because they had grown accustomed to it.
That’s the first mistake. Lithium-based batteries in modern wearables don’t normally fail this quickly. When a battery stops charging or drains abnormally fast within the warranty period, it’s often a sign of a manufacturing defect, internal battery damage, or, in rarer cases, stress caused by impact or pressure. In all of these scenarios, the device should be replaced immediately, not worn indefinitely.
The real danger became apparent when the user later tried charging the ring and noticed it no longer fit properly on the charger. On closer inspection, the ring showed visible swelling opposite the sensor area, which typically happens when internal cells degrade and release gas. At that point, the device becomes a potential safety hazard, especially for something worn on the finger.
Calling it a “ticking time bomb,” as the user did, is unfortunately accurate. However, the user could have avoided all this had they stopped using the Galaxy Ring immediately once it stopped holding a charge. They should have contacted Samsung support and requested a warranty replacement rather than trying to charge it.
Lithium batteries are sealed systems. If they fail early, it’s not something that improves with time. On the contrary, it usually gets worse. While modern devices rarely suffer battery issues within the warranty period, one should not ignore any signs of a battery failure. If your Galaxy Ring‘s battery dies early, replace it. Don’t wear it and hope for the best. Your safety matters more than muscle memory.
